Behavioral and Social/Cognitive Approaches to Forming Habits. The following paper will discuss the bad habit of drinking coffee consistently. The improvement of this habit and who the real examples were that made this habit become a habit. It will also examine the theory of the habit, the components that made the habit happen, and how a person could change this habit. As we age, the habit becomes more challenging to break, and we start to depend upon it in our everyday lives. A habit can often be portrayed as a pattern we humans follow daily.

From Social Routine to Caffeine Addiction: The Evolution of a Habit

The habit of drinking coffee on a daily basis started as only something social that was done with companions in the early mornings before our day would start. It then transformed into a daily habit when the kids came along, and there were early mornings when energy was required. After not getting adequate rest of the brain from waking up with a baby, there was a shock of energy that was normal in the mornings, so the day could happen without a person being so exhausted. It was a significant influence after being a youth with adults all around who would drink coffee daily and throughout the day. While growing up, it was enjoyable to have the option to go to Grandma’s home and drink coffee with her at night, and it made you feel like an adult and something exceptionally great.

The reason why this habit has continued and is as yet taking place is that now it has unquestionably transformed into an addiction to caffeine. At first, it was a mental addiction, and there was pleasure in this habit. Anyway, eventually, it appears to be that there is a physical addiction that the body has to caffeine. The only times that I have attempted to stop drinking the coffee have been hard, as there are caffeine withdrawals that accompany the stopping.

These withdrawal symptoms will regularly be languor, not wanting to get up, and outrageous headaches. If aiding through these symptoms could be attained, the habit would be done with no issue. What initially started as a social habit has transformed into a habit that the body relies on daily. It appears that this is a habit for many individuals, as is the amount of coffee traded daily in our country. There are also many ways a person can get the caffeine that their body needs or appears to hope to function, from sodas, caffeinated drinks, and powders (Hruby, 2002).

Understanding Habit Formation and Strategies for Change

The behavioral personality theory on why this habit is formed is that once you witness other individuals making it, the environment in which you are, the habit is easy. It makes it appear to be something normal that a person does when everyone around you is also making it happen. The behavior that is followed with this habit is that it is something a person is accustomed to doing, and after such incalculable years, it has transformed into a habit. This behavior has transformed into a pattern that is followed daily, from getting up in the initial section of the day to drinking that first mug of coffee to get you moving. As it were, it is an addictive behavior even though it did not start that way anyway. The sort of personality has allowed this to happen and form from the behaviors that it shows.

Social Cognitive Theories and Strategies for Breaking the Coffee Habit

One of the social cognitive theories that can explain how this habit formed and started happening would have to accompany the self-regulation portion. The way that addiction and habit of drinking coffee daily might have been controlled, assuming there was more self-regulation during the early phases. There would have been more self-regulation if the body had not depended on caffeine as much. Another theory would be that hanging around with many who drank coffee wore off on others. While in high school, we would go to this occupation. Everyone there drank coffee, so to feel like we fit in, we also started to drink the coffee. Around then, people had no idea that it would later transform into an addiction to caffeine or that it could never at any point have been started (Harris, 2013).

This habit can be changed by setting goals to help ascend out of the daily habit of drinking coffee. After several seasons of your body not having it and going through all of the withdrawal symptoms, your body will not ever depend upon having the caffeine to wake up in the mornings. Scaling back the restriction of coffee that is smashed consistently in a drained way could help in having the option to break the habit. They also make decaffeinated coffee with nearly no caffeine in it, and by starting to drink it, their person could mislead their mind into thinking he was drinking regular coffee, which would help break the habit.

The Influence of Environment and Social Factors on Habit Formation

The behavior that best explains my personality and why I started this habit would be that of a sweetheart who started doing what others were doing.
